Sadly, classmate, Ron Dicks died yesterday from pancreatic and lung cancer.  He was a firefighter in Indianapolis for 39 years.  Those who knew him say he was a wonderful man.  He will be missed by many.   Much more information will be available to you when his obituary is published.  Memories from Ron's past could still be e-mailed to his two sons.  Their e-mail addresses are posted on the e-mail sent yesterday.

Sorry to hear about Ron's passing. He was a good friend in high school. I saw him a few times through the years when he was with IFD, and I was working with the ambulance service. He will be missed.

I was aquianted with Ron in High School however, we lost track of each other after graduation.

It's always sad to hear of the passing of a classmate whether you know them or just recognize them from

School days. My recollection of Ron is that he was a nice person, a decent person as I knew him.

That he devoted his life in service to the citizens and community of Indianapolis as a Firefighter speaks

volumes in my opinion. I wish to express my sincere condolences to his family and friends and may he

rest in the arms of our LORD Jesus Christ....

 Ronald Alan Dicks, 64, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 24th after a two year battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Ron retired in 2014 as Captain after completing 39 years with the Indianapolis Fire Department.  He is survived by his wife Nancy Lamb Dicks; son, Joshua Dicks (Amy): daughter, Stephanie Jones (Brandon); grandchildren: Paige, Braylon, Hayden, Korie & Kyleigh Jones; sisters, Brenda Brydges (Jack), Kathy Mullins (Phil); brother, David Dicks (Anita); brother-in-law Gary Powell.  Ron was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, IN and was preceded in death by his parents, Marian R. (Barclay) Dicks and David L. Dicks; sister, Linda S Dicks Powell.

Ron’s hobbies included spoiling grandchildren, boating, camping, shooting and ATV riding.

Ron started his career with IFD in June 1975.  On July 1, 1983 he was promoted to Lieutenant.  His first regular assignment was to engine 24. Ron became one of the first Paramedics with the department on January 31, 1997.  After his promotion to Captain he found his way back home to first aid squad #14 where he remained for 32 years until his retirement.  Ron was instrumental in the planning of the new Station #14 in 2001.  During his time with IFD he was part of the Dive, Swift Water Rescue, High Angle/Low Angle Rope Rescue Teams. Ron was Firefighter of the Year 2006.

Visitation will be at Sunnyside Road Baptist Church 6102 Sunnyside Rd. Indianapolis from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 28th and on Thursday, March 29th 9:00 am to 10:00 am; Services in Church at 10:00 am.  After service procession will drive by IFD Station #14 to Grave Site at Washington Park East followed by Celebration of Life at Daniel’s Vineyard 9061 N. 700 W (Carroll Road) McCordsville.
