In Memory

Stewart DeWitt

Stewart DeWitt

We were young and we were one in spirit at LCHS!.  Stewart and his brother, Brad (whom he spoke of often) loved and breathed school.  In spite of difficult home circumstances that Stewart shared with us, he thrived amongst us and went on to complete a college education at Ball State University.  Stewart loved music and let me know when my guitar rhythm was off a beat.  Stewart played base guitar at our 30th & 31st year LCHS Class Reunions at The Fountains in Carmel.  He was joined by Stephanie Grimes Wright (Singer) & Bob Colver, MD (lead guitar) from Class of 71, and Class of 72 members:  Jerry Brown (flute) & Joyce DeBaun Eggleston (rhythm guitar). We didn't know then that Kurt Schmadake could have played the keys with us!   We called ourselves The Unbearables!  We had a practice session at my home.  Stewart's guitar neck tapped the ceiling fan causing dust to drop onto his thin haired head.  We gasped and then broke out into laughter!   Like all of us, we embraced those early, formative years that caused us to remain in touch until even now.  Stewart:  You were a passionate soul amongst us and never forgot a friend.  Gary Richardson, especially stayed in touch with you. You knew every lyric to every song.  Although we don't have your sense of rhythm, we recognized your talents and are grateful for your friendship and will miss your presence.  Sing and play that bass in Heaven.

We will all miss Stewart.  He added so much to our lives at LC.  I will keep him in prayer and think of him fondly.

I kept in contact fairly regularly with Stew when he moved to Florida. I constantly prayed for him. I didn't know Stew in HS very well however, the past 4 years we became pretty close as friends. We talked about his addictions and demons and how he was coping. He fought the battle of his life but couldn't win. I will miss my new/old friend very much and continue to pray for him. He was full of life and he was the most soulful of us all...
